White chocolate isn't strictly speaking chocolate. We have been labouring under apprehension for many years. Chocolate has to contain cocoa solids, but white chocolate doesn't have any in it. Instead, cocoa butter is used in the production of white chocolate.

Europeans are the biggest fans of chocolate, accounting for the consumption of nearly half of the chocolate that is produced globally.

Where was the biggest chocolate bar produced? In the UK; it was made by Thornton's for its centenary. It was a record breaker, weighing 5,792.50 kilograms.

Chocolate contains theobromine which s a very powerful stimulant. If you eat too much of it, it can prove fatal. Is Organic Food Healthy?

June 07, 2019 0 Comments
Organic food has become very popular. But navigating the maze of organic food labels, benefits, and claims can be confusing. Is organic food really better for your mental and physical health? Let's find out. The term “organic” refers to the way agricultural products are grown and processed. While the regulations vary from country to country, organic crops basically mean it must be grown without the use of synthetic pesticides. Organic livestock raised for meat, eggs, and dairy products must have access to the outdoors and be given organic feed. They may not be given antibiotics, growth hormones, or any animal by-products. Hence in our country, Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation.

A few examples of organic food are Fruits and Vegetables, including Mushrooms, Grains, Legumes, Nuts and Seeds, Dairy Products and Eggs, Livestock Feed, Meats and Poultry. Organic and conventional food must meet the same quality and safety standards. Organic food differs from conventionally produced food simply in the way it is grown, handled and processed. There is no scientific evidence to suggest that it is more nutritious or safer than conventional food.

Organic foods may have higher nutritional value than conventional food, according to some research. The reason: In the absence of pesticides and fertilizers, plants boost their production of the phytochemicals (vitamins and antioxidants) that strengthen their resistance to bugs and weeds. The most discussed environmental advantage of organic foods is that they don't have any chemical pesticides, but a 2010 study found that some organic pesticides can actually have a worse environmental impact than conventional ones.

Organic foods often have more beneficial nutrients, such as antioxidants, than their conventionally-grown counterparts and people with allergies to foods, chemicals, or preservatives often find their symptoms lessen or go away when they eat only organic foods. Organic produce contains fewer pesticides. Many consumers believe that organic foods have better nutritional value than conventionally grown foods.

Apart from Reduced Exposure to Pesticides and Reduced Exposure to Antibiotics - there is a possible advantage of Reduced Allergies and Obesity. The organic way of living also leads to Better Treatment of Animals. The organic practices are more sustainable than conventional agriculture. For example, organic farmers are free to plant outside the natural season for crops, using heating systems and other practices that eat up a lot of natural resources. So if sustainability really matters to you, consider doing a little extra research to make sure the organic brand you're looking at is as eco-friendly as you think it is.

It almost always costs more than conventionally grown food. That's small wonder when you consider the long list of cost- and production-optimizing practices that are common on conventional farms but aren't allowed on organic farms.
Some farms follow largely organic production practices but haven't actually pursued organic certification, either because they find the letter of the organic standards to be too restrictive or because of the extra costs involved that they don't want to pass on to the consumer.

The impact on the climate from organic farming is reportedly the same with biofuels such as ethanol made from wheat, sugarcane and corn, as well as biodiesel from palm oil, rape-seed and soya.

World Milk Day

June 01, 2019 0 Comments
The 1st. of June every year is a very special day when the whole world comes together to celebrate the goodness of milk and its importance as a global food source. Started by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 2001, the recognition of the World Milk Day continues to grow as it is celebrated by more and more countries every year. Nothing compares to the goodness of milk.

It is the best source for calcium and vitamin D - two nutrients essential for building strong bones and teeth. It is also rich in protein which is important for building and repairing body tissues. In fact, milk is regarded as one of the most nutritionally complete foods available on our planet and has been part of the human diet for thousands of years.

The theme for World Milk Day 2019 is “Drink Milk: Today & Every day”

Why do we celebrate world milk day? To realise the importance of milk as global food and to pay more attention to activities that are connected with the dairy sector.

World Milk Day was first designated by the FAO (the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations) in 2001
Why 1st June? This date was chosen because a number of countries were already celebrating a national milk day on or around this time. While most countries hold their celebrations on 1st June, some choose to hold them a week or so before or after this date.

Did you know? - Heating the milk changes its molecular structure so it is much digestible and easier for human consumption.

A growing number of studies have shown that milk, when consumed as part of a healthy balanced diet, provides several health benefits:

It helps provide protection against bone diseases like osteoporosis

It helps reduce high blood pressure

It helps lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases

It helps reduce the risk of colon and breast cancer

It helps reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

To obtain the same amount of calcium from a 200ml glass of milk, you would need to consume four servings of broccoli, or seven and a half slices of white bread, 11 servings of spinach, or 15 servings of red kidney beans. To celebrate the goodness of milk.

Daily cows produce the greatest amount of world milk supply mostly from developed countries. It is a vital sector of agricultural businesses in developed countries of the Mediterranean region such as France, Italy, Spain and Greece because the production of milk and its product of cheeses and yogurt are also a valued part of the total dairy industry in developed countries,

Production of goat milk is equally important in countries of the underdeveloped world, where it provides basic nutrition and subsistence to the rural people, which are the majority of their populations, and milk is important in the prevention of undernutrition and malnutrition since milk is the superior source of calcium and protein.

Goats milk is also great for your skin because it is rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins as well as high in lactic acid which helps exfoliate dead skin cells and soften your skin. Thus, goat milk serves in a general way four types of the market around the world, such as (1) Home Consumption, (2) Specialty gourmet interests, (3) Medical needs, and (4) Cosmetic goat milk products. So celebrate the goodness of milk yearly on World Milk Day.

Why Should you promote your food blog on Instagram

May 27, 2019 0 Comments
If you’re not using Instagram to promote yourself or your food blog, there’s no better time than right now. In fact, Instagram now leads other larger social media networks in terms of user engagement (that is, the degree to which followers of a page “like” or otherwise interact with a post), according to the Wall Street Journal. But this high level of free contact with fans of your site may not last.

A new report by the market research firm Forrester Research, titled “Use Instagram Now,” found consumers are currently much more inclined to like, share, and comment on brands’ posts on Instagram than they are on Facebook or Twitter. How much likelier? Posts by brands and food blogs generate an average of 58 times more engagement per follower on Instagram than they do on Facebook, and 120 times more than on Twitter, the report said.

Forrester attributes these insanely high interaction rates to three main factors. The first is simply the lower numbers of users on Instagram, compared to other networks. Less content means that posts from your site or product won’t get lost in the shuffle quite as easily. Second, Instagram tends to show you all the posts from your network, without trying to “filter” results to show you the things they think you want to see. This means that ALL of your fans are likelier to see ALL of your posts. And finally, Instagram’s users tend to skew younger…and younger people are more likely to engage with your brand on social media.

It’s not all good news, however. The report warns that Instagram’s numbers will inevitably drop, meaning that the time for blogs, brands, and products to get active on Instagram is NOW. As more and more advertisers discover the network, Instagram will have no choice but to begin to filter content according to a “relevancy” algorithm, the way Facebook does now. Now that Instagram is owned by Facebook, it’s not inconceivable that the network will experiment with the post “reach,” similar to the way the network has crippled fan pages.

As always, bloggers and brands should remain nimble, be careful not invest too heavily in one social strategy, and be ready to switch to new services as they emerge.

“Instagram delivers best-in-class social engagement rates for brands today, but it won’t last,” the report concluded. “Marketers must use Instagram now before it changes the rules – and they must be ready to move on to another social site when Instagram’s phenomenal engagement rates disappear.”

Why should we cook food at home more often?

May 22, 2019 0 Comments
Home cooking brings to mind memories of family gathered around a table as a scrumptious meal was placed before them. Sunday afternoon dinners of homemade entrees and desserts to satisfy any palate.

The idea of home-made cooking and comfort foods is vastly appealing. Yet, the frozen food industry shows us time and time again that many people are turning to microwavable meals to satisfy their hunger pangs.

We do not have time and there are some people who do not know how easy it is to cook a meal at home. It does not take a professional chef to whip up a tasty and easy dinner.

It also does not have to take hours on end. Yes, it is easier to stop by the local drive-through and grab a meal but it will not be as healthy or taste quite the same as if you did it yourself.

Home cooking does not have to be about hours slaving away over a hot stove. It does not have to be about elaborate recipes that call for ingredients only found in obscure foreign markets.

It is about preparing dishes that appeal to you and your family. Find recipes that you enjoy eating and are easy to prepare. It can be healthy cooking as well.

It does not have to be fried chicken or bland steamed broccoli. There are dozens of websites on the internet that offer free recipes as well as helpful hints and tips for preparation.

There is a reason home-style restaurants are popular. They offer common regional dishes that are easy to recognize and simple to prepare. Take a cue from those restaurants and try simple dishes at first.

One of the most popular meals served in homes is the traditional macaroni and cheese casserole. It is a hit with kids and adults alike, not to mention it is easy to prepare and there are hundreds of recipe variations found on the internet.

Home cooking can help by solving two problems families face today. The first is a lack of communication and family time. You would be surprised how mandatory family time around the dinner table can open up communication with our children.

Studies have shown that families who eat together, without being in front of a television set, have better family skills than those that do not. The second problem we face is how unhealthy our diets are.

Fast food and calorie laden frozen foods are killing us. Home cooking can help alleviate part of the obesity problem by allowing us greater control over how the food is prepared.

So the next time you and your family are hungry, consider making something together and sharing it at the dinner table. You might be surprised to see the difference in how you feel.

What Is The Correct Way of Frying Food?

May 15, 2019 0 Comments
Many people find it tricky to fry foods because of the high temperature that needs to be used. It can also become difficult if you can't control the frying oil from spattering on your hands and body. Have no fear because there are some tricks to frying.

The key to frying correctly is to use the right temperature and the correct frying oil. Many chefs would say that using vegetable oil is best. This is because it has a higher smoke point and remains consistent.

Only pair the same foods with the same frying oil. In other words fry chips only in the frying oil you have prepared. Don't also fry doughnuts in the same oil because it will affect the flavour. The remnants in the frying oil can stick to the food.

Cook the same sized portion in one frying set. If you are the type of person who prefers to deep fry you would know that it's easier to fry when all the pieces are more or less the same size. You will only remove the batch once all the pieces are evenly cooked. If there are small pieces they may burn in the process of cooking larger chunks of food.

When you are pan frying or frying in a deep bottomed pot you need to have the correct cooking tools and utensils. An apron will protect your clothes from getting stained if the oil starts to spatter. Have a strainer or draining utensil with a long handle handy. This is a good idea because your hands won't be so close to the hot oil in case of spatter. The best utensil to use for frying is a slotted spoon or spider spoon.

Gently place the food into the pot, pan or fryer. Throwing it in will cause an eruption of sizzling oil that could hurt your hands and face. You also don't want to cause too much disturbance because the temperature has to stay consistent.

Crowding the pot or pan will result in a temperature drop then it becomes trickier to handle. Keep the amount of pieces in the pot at a minimum if you are a beginner. You also have to keep calm when cooking in this style. Too much panicking will distract you from the quickly-cooking food. In addition, don't overuse frying oil. After two to three uses the oil needs to be thrown out because it goes bad eventually.

The correct way to serve your freshly fried food is to make sure that excess oil gets drained from the pieces. Too much oil that remains on the food softens the crispiness that was intended. It also isn't pleasant to take a bite and just have oil dripping all over the place. Place a serviette layer at the bottom of a bowl then remove the food from the frying oil and allow the serviettes to absorb the excess oil.
