Best Momos in Delhi | DOLMA AUNTY MOMOs | Lajpat Nagar

Let's| take a tour if Delhi's famous hot spot momos joint in Lajpat Nagar famous as Dolma Aunty.
You just need to ask the rickshaw walla to take you to Lajpat Nagar central market from them metro station ‘ Lajpat Nagar’ Exit from gate number 2 and olay the rickshaw guy 30 max. Bargain and he may come down to 20 rupees. But that’s where you need to showcase your talent of bargaining.
Lajpat Nagar is one of the most colourful and crowded markets in Delhi. It never stops. But in all the crowd, there is a beauty. An underlying satisfaction to see a place full of people all together in oneness working towards improving the central market’s reputation one after the one.
The shop opens at noon and closes at 10.30 in the evening. This is here since 1994. At that time no one even started selling momos in the city. They were the first ones to come up with something like this. One of the oldest shops eatery shops the market to witness.

They have 5 outlets now. Two in Lajpat Nagar, one in New friends colony, one in Janpath and the other one in Kamla Nagar.

EXACT ADDRESS: Block A, Lajpat Nagar II, Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi, Delhi 110024

CONTACT NUMBER: 098106 54581

This shop has one of the most authentic momos. It basically serves three varieties of momos.

Chicken  Rs. 100 per plate (8 momos)

Veg Rs 60 per plate

Paneer  Rs80 per plate

Served with red chilli chutney along with garlic chutney that will make your tastebuds go crazy.
What’s special about these momos are the combination of chutney, how its made, the spicy flavour. People who come here are crazy for the chutney. Momos in Delhi have now been accepted as a major part of its fast-food culture. Although, a lot of ancient Tibetian people would argue that momos in Delhi are not actual momos. They have their own style and taste for momos, but I beg to differ. What might be a dish of origin of a different culture, now has taken a huge place in our city.

Momos is one of the most looked around food in Delhi. One it's cheap, second, it's easy to cook. You don’t need to apply science to it and third, it provides employment to a huge chunk of people, youngster especially who come from eastern parts. There is a different variation available everywhere. Everyone cooks it to its own fit.

The favourite one is chicken momos but does not underestimate their veg or paneer momos. Both are equally popular. But if I had to choose I would say to go for paneer momos because of cabbage in the veg momos.

What makes it amazing is the very soft and then peel/cover of the momos. The softer is the outer covering the better it is. The maida part is what is best. Once it goes in your mouth, it mixes and takes you on a trip. They are very soft and delicious.

Paneer momos are round in shape. Unlike other places, where the veg momos are in round shape.

Apart from momos, they serve Chinese platter. Veg and non-veg both. This is also one of the very poplular things to eat in this market.

If you are on a shopping spree and you are super hungry but want it to be cost effective then this is where you come.

Veg platter  - Rupees 80 – Veg noodles, spring roll, Chilly potato, chilly paneer, Manchurian

Non-Veg platter – Rupees 100- Chicken noodles, Chilly chicken, chilly kebab, chicken Manchurian

Now as far as the platter is concerned, I am not very sure of the veg platter because the chilly potato (one of my favourite Chinese dishes) is dry and soggy which makes it not so attractive, but if you are hungry and can eat like anything then you won't even get to know.

Spring roll, Noodles everything rest is tip top. Manchurian is out of the world

Dolma Aunty momos are named after the owner, Dolma. She is an absolutely amazing woman and claims to have opened the first momos shop in Delhi in 1994. She is an inspiration and has been working all her life to this momos shop. She has been successful in opening 4 branches in this huge city and a place where there is huge variety and a momo shop at every corner, she has been able to make a name for herself.

I think what makes a mom shop famous is Delhi is its location. The fact that a momo shop is located in the heart of a major market in Delhi that has huge public traction, which always works in its favours, that goes without saying that the quality should be good, which without any shop this place has very well delivered.
